What is Usui Reiki Healing?
Usui Reiki healing is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing technique that originated in Japan. Developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century, this method involves the transfer of universal life force energy through the hands of a trained Reiki healer to the recipient. The goal is to restore energetic balance and promote healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.
The term “Reiki” comes from two Japanese words:
-
Rei (霊): Universal or spiritual wisdom
-
Ki (æ°—): Life force energy
Together, they mean "spiritually guided life force energy." According to Reiki principles, when your life force energy is low, you're more likely to feel stressed or fall ill; when it's high, you're more capable of feeling happy and staying healthy. A Reiki healer typically places their hands lightly on or just above your body, helping to clear energetic blockages, reduce stress, and support the body's natural healing processes.

Usui Reiki healing is the most widely practiced form of Reiki and is based on five guiding principles:
-
Just for today, do not worry
-
Just for today, do not anger
-
Be honest in your work
-
Be grateful
-
Be kind to others
Usui Reiki can support a wide range of conditions — from anxiety, depression, and chronic pain to fatigue and emotional imbalances — by promoting deep relaxation and aligning your energy for overall well-being.
How Does Usui Reiki Healing Work?
In a typical Usui Reiki session:
-
Setting: You’ll lie fully clothed on a treatment table in a peaceful, calm space.
-
Technique: As a trained Reiki healer, I follow a sequence of hand positions lightly placed on or just above the body. I am also trained to offer Reiki without touch, standing a few feet away when needed.
-
Energy Transfer: I channel universal energy to support the release of energetic blockages and encourage natural healing.
Many of my clients in Croydon, Sutton and surrounding areas describe sensations of warmth, tingling, or pulsing during a session, often accompanied by deep peace and relaxation.
Benefits of Usui Reiki
Reiki healing supports:
-
Stress and Anxiety Relief: Promotes deep relaxation and emotional calm.
-
Pain Management: Assists in easing chronic pain.
-
Emotional Release: Helps clear emotional blocks and unresolved feelings.
-
Better Sleep: Improves sleep quality and combats restlessness.
-
Holistic Health: Supports mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
Reiki is a complementary therapy and is not a replacement for conventional medical treatment, but it can work beautifully alongside it.
What to Expect During a Session

-
Duration: Sessions range from 30 to 90 minutes. I follow the traditional lineage of Mikao Usui, offering 30-minute sessions over 3, 7, or 21 days — or longer single sessions (60–90 mins) for clients who prefer less frequent visits.
-
Experience: You might feel warmth, coolness, tingling, or simply a sense of calm.
-
After Effects: Most people feel centred, rebalanced, and lighter afterwards.
Every person responds differently. Even if you don’t feel physical sensations, the energy is still working on subtle levels.
